1. What is OSLC?

   Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) is an open community building practical specifications for integrating software. OSLC is working for easier integrations, designing robust, flexible connections, gathering industry experts and writing minimalistic specifications. The OSLC initiative applied World Wide Web and Linked Data principles, such as those defined in the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Linked Data Platform (LDP), to create a cohesive set of specifications that can enable products, services and other distributed network resources to interoperate successfully.

2. What is OSLC Core Technical Committee (TC)?

   As of May 1 2013, OSLC was formally transitioned into the OASIS Standards body. The new OSLC Member Section of OASIS has 22 members including Accenture, Bank of America, Boeing, EADS, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Mentor Graphics, National Instruments, Red Hat and Siemens. The OSLC Core Workgroup (WG) will be the first to transition to and OASIS Technical Committee (TC) affiliated with the newly created OSLC Member Section at OASIS. The Ericsson, IBM, KTH, Software AG, Tasktop has made up the initial list of OSLC Core TC proposers for OSLC Core TC Charter. The OSLC Core TC is responsible for specifications that expand W3C LDP concepts to enable integration. It defines the essential technical elements of OSLC specifications and offers guidance on common concerns for creating, updating, retrieving, and linking to lifecycle resources based on W3C LDP.

3. How does OSLC Core Specification benefit software and product lifecycle integration?

   OSLC is motivated by domain scenarios such as change management, requirement management, and quality management, as well as by cross-domain scenarios such as Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and Integrated Service Management (ISM). Each domain and cross-domain area may have its own technical committee or working groups and/or specifications. The OSLC Core technical specifications will create best practices documents and formulate design principles that can be leveraged by other OSLC MS-affiliated TCs to enable them to focus on domain-specific concerns.

4. What is the status of OSLC Core?

   The OASIS OSLC Core TC will accept as input the OSLC MS Steering Committee approved versions of the OSLC Core 3.0 specifications from open-services.net and targeted for development at OASIS as indicated here.

5. How does OSLC Core relate to W3C Linked Data Platform?

   W3C Linked Data Platform provide the technical and architectural foundation for OSLC Core specifications. LDP specification address some common rules for working with read-write Linked Data, a critical component to tool and application integration.
